Wednesday Blog – Day Three!
We started our day with breakfast as usual, but dreadfully early… for some of us. Lots of eggs were eaten. 26 today! It started out as 18 on Monday then 24 on Tuesday and finally 26 today! How many do you think we will eat tomorrow? After that we packed our lunches and chips. And off to work we went, hi-ho, hi-ho, its off to work we go! Once we got there, we got our instructions and swiftly went to work.
Today we moved dirt, lots and lots of dirt. While we were doing this, we sang sea chanties, Christmas carols, and the one song the dwarves sang in Snow White (as referenced earlier). Many pictures of our work were posted on the ECHO Village Facebook page. Surprisingly, this caused free popsicles and brownies! Brought by Laura, or as Suzie called her “Saint Laura.” In addition to moving dirt, we cleaned gross bathrooms that had drywall mess and dirt. We are also hoping to finish the flower bed tomorrow and plant some flowers. Which means more dirt moving!
The veteran’s house is coming along smoothly, only a couple of things to do left. A couple of our detail-oriented crew are getting to be paint pros down there… except for one pesky door that kept demanding all of Jinhee’s and Pam’s time and paint, like a spoiled child. Up at the hospitality house they were still moving dirt, go figure!
We then finished up the day at the pool with some diving competitions and some continued basketball rivalries. It was pretty intense! Meanwhile there were some scary wasps by the charging outlet that scared Cora. When we were leaving Suzie made sure that we got some eggs from her girls (her 17 chickens)! 3 dozen in fact! Surely enough for breakfast tomorrow. Before we had dinner Pam and Barbara went to the grocery store, 3rd time this week! Tonight they ran into Doc (who helps out at ECHO Village) and got to see his 1953 US Army Jeep. Tyler, Gene, David, and Caleb then started making dinner - ginger lime chicken that was so delicious it had everyone asking for the recipe. It is a Mission Trip Tradition, 2nds and 3rds were had. We had devotions after that led by Anna, Alex, Rob, and Barbara. Everyone is emerging from their shells, which is really fun! (Except that means a longer devotion time). We then headed to bed to be ready for work tomorrow.
Signing off for tonight: Cora, Melanie, Jinhee, and Pam
